I wish to add that during my career, I have had more than thirty years of service to England, and, with the exception of one illness, I have never been unable to perform my duties from ill health. Beyond the foregoing facts, I have nothing to allege, excepting that in the earlier years of the history of the Colony, my duties were arduous, accompanied with some danger, and privations which happily have long disappeared from the Government service.
I may be pardoned in asserting, without however claiming any merit therefor, that I have fulfilled the functions of the official appointment entrusted to me with the earnest desire of exhibiting integrity and impartiality. I place before Your Excellency's observation some papers which I have sought for, and which I hope will not shake the honor to be,
Sir,
